DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (October 26, 2024) - Men's soccer picked up a nice conference road win on Saturday night, taking down the Embry-Riddle Eagles 3-0. The victory moves Rollins to 5-5-1 on the season and 3-3-1 in SSC play. The Eagles fall to 4-7-2, 2-5-1 SSC.
It took a while for the first goal of the game to be scored, but it was worth the wait.
Finlay Prain started things off with an attack, but lost his balance and passed back to
Hayden Smethurst. The senior captain surveyed the field, and lofted a ball to the center of the box.
Jorge Lameiras was waiting, and landed a perfectly-time jump kick, slicing the ball into the corner of the net to put Rollins up 1-0.
The next opportunity came with a little over a minute remaining in the first half. Off a free kick, multiple Tars touched the ball, including Lameiras, who took a shot at the goal. His attempt bounced off a defender, and landed at the feet of
Yousef Shakweer. Before anyone could react, the sophomore had already blasted the ball into the top corner to put the Tars up 2-0.
The final brace was a result of a nifty pass from
Pedro Lameiras, who had taken control of the ball near midfield and sped ahead. As three Eagle defenders collapsed on him, Pedro slipped a nifty pass to his brother Jorge who unleashed a rocket from the 18-yard box for his second of the game.
Jabari Gray was phenomenal in goal, stopping seven shots while posting his second clean sheet of the season. His 53 saves are the most in the SSC.
Next up for Rollins is home match against Saint Leo on Wednesday, October 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
