WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 30, 2024) - Men's soccer earned a solid SSC win on Wednesday night, defeating the Saint Leo Lions 2-1 at Cahall-Sandspur field. With the win, Rollins improves to 6-5-1 (4-3-1 SSC) while the Lions drop to 3-8-3 (2-4-2 SSC).
The action was moderate for most of the first half as neither team truly had a great chance to score. That all changed just three minutes from half time when Rollins set up a corner kick. The ball ricocheted off a number of players before
Tommy Link was able to tap it to
Sam Latty. Latty unleashed a rocket to the left post past the diving keeper, giving Rollins a 1-0 lead.
To start the second period, Rollins was awarded three corner kicks in less than a minute. On the third one,
Jorge Lameiras went with a short kick to
Kaden Foreman, who immediately sent it back to Lameiras. The senior then sent a magnificent cross over the box to
Hayden Judge. The defenseman calmly headed an arcing ball over the leaping Lion keeper, dropping it perfectly in the back corner to put Rollins up 2-0.
Saint Leo avoided the shutout with a goal off a free kick from Anel Rojas in the 57th minute. Despite a flurry of activity in the final thirty minutes, no goal was scored, and the game ended as a 2-1 Tars win.
It was a substantial victory for the Tars, who remain as the #5 seed in the SSC standings, but now sit two games up on sixth. This all but guarantees them a berth in the SSC tournament.
The next match for Rollins will take place on Saturday when they host the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish. Prior to the start of the game, the coaching staff will recognize the eight graduating seniors from the team. The ceremony starts at 5:40 pm, and the game begins at 6 pm.
