Tars Fall to Eagles

Rollins came up short in the 3-1 defeat on Tuesday night

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 22, 2024) – The Rollins volleyball team came up short on Tuesday, falling at Embry-Riddle, 3-1 (25-19, 25-15, 20-25, 26-24). The loss drops the Tars to 11-9 overall, 2-7 in SSC play, while the Eagles go to 12-5, 5-3 in conference matches.
 
Lana Gerard led the Tars with 14 kills while Jadyn Troutman (12 blocks) and Molly Norris (11 blocks) each set career highs in blocks, with Troutman adding 10 kills to register a double-double. Natalie Horsley tallied a match-leading 44 assists and Adriana Lopez picked up a match-best 19 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • The Tars trailed throughout the opening frame, but a late 5-0 burst brought them to within four points at 23-19.
  • Embry-Riddle stopped the momentum and captured the next two points to take the set, 25-19.
Set Two
  • Set two saw ERAU score the first seven points and never look back, taking the set 25-15 to go up 2-0 in the match.
Set Three
  • In the third set, Rollins jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead, though Embry-Riddle was able to chip away and eventually pull ahead, 13-12.
  • The Eagles continued to hold a slim lead until the Tars rattled off six straight points, three of which came from blocks by Troutman and Norris, to give Rollins set point at 24-19.
  • Two points later, a Troutman kill sealed the frame at 25-20 in favor of the visitors.
Set Four
  • Embry-Riddle won six of the first eight points in the fourth set, and the home side stayed in front for most of the frame, using a 6-1 run to extend its lead to 18-11.
  • The Tars didn't give up, and a late 6-1 spurt brought Rollins level at 24-24.
  • ERAU was able to recover and win the next two points, taking the set by a score of 26-24 to win the match, 3-1.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will return home on Friday, October 25th to host No. 18 Barry at 7 p.m. Friday's match will be Dig Pink night, where Rollins will wear special pink uniforms which will be available for fans to bid on in an online auction to raise money for The Side-Out Foundation.
