WINTER PARK, Fla. (Sept. 30, 2023) – The Rollins volleyball team picked up a 3-1 (26-24, 18-25, 25-22, 25-19) victory over visiting Barry on Saturday afternoon. The win lifts the Blue and Gold to 8-6 overall and 3-3 in conference, while the Buccaneers drop to 4-8, 1-5 in SSC play.
Lana Gerard and
Jadyn Troutman each recorded a team-high 16 kills, with
Emily Diaz chipping in with 14 kills. Troutman also tied with
Emma Begley for the team lead in blocks with five apiece.
Natalie Horsley tallied a match-leading 50 assists to go along with eight digs, while
Adriana Lopez collected a team-best 10 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
- Barry used a 5-0 run to go up 9-6 early in the opening set.
- The Tars battled back to quickly tie it at 10, and a 4-0 run shortly thereafter pushed the Blue and Gold to a 14-12 advantage.
- After the Bucs scored the next four points to retake the lead, Gerard scored a kill and Horsley and Begley teamed up for a big block to tie the set at 16.
- Barry went back ahead, 20-18, before a Troutman kill followed by back-to-back BU errors gave Rollins a 21-20 edge.
- The Bucs got the next two points to take a 22-21 lead, and after trading sideouts, the visitors found themselves with set point at 24-23.
- Gerard put down a kill to fight off set point, and a block by Diaz and Begley turned the tide, giving Rollins set point at 25-24.
- Diaz recorded a kill on the next point, securing the 26-24 win for the Tars.
Set Two
- Set two saw the Bucs jump out to a 5-1 lead, which grew to 13-6 before long.
- Barry extended the lead to as many as eight points (17-9 and 20-12) as it controlled the frame, winning it by a score of 25-18 to even the match at a set apiece.
Set Three
- The third set saw the momentum swing back and forth a few times, initially going to Rollins, who jumped out to a quick 7-4 lead.
- BU battled back, going on a 9-2 run to pull ahead, 14-10.
- The Tars had an answer for that, scoring eight of the next nine points as part of an 11-3 rally that pushed the home team to a 21-17 lead.
- Barry clawed back to within a point at 22-21, but Rollins won three of the final four points, including two Diaz kills, to clinch the set, 25-22.
Set Four
- Rollins started strong in the fourth set, quickly gaining a 7-3 advantage.
- Before long, the Tars had stretched the lead out to 17-9.
- Barry got back to within five at 18-13, but the Blue and Gold did well to not let the lead shrink any further, and Rollins held on for a 25-19 win to clinch the match, 3-1.

The Tars will continue this five-match homestand next Friday, Oct. 6, when they welcome Florida Southern to Warden Arena for a 7 p.m. contest.
