LAKELAND, Fla. (September 25, 2023) - Women's tennis competed in Lakeland this weekend at the ITA South Regional, hosted by Florida Southern.

The Tars saw some success in doubles play from
Katie Groves and newcomer
Nancy Liu. They took down Eckerd's Julia Triska/Olivia Lindestaf by a score of 8-1 in the second round before falling to Estefania Garcia/Regina Urbiola Armenta of Auburn Montgomery, 8-3.
Milla Falster and
Nina Mitrofanova were the other Tar duo to compete, but they lost in their opening round matchup against Kennedi Brown/Kelly Klaren of Florida Southern, 8-6.
Liu was the only Rollins athlete to win a singles matchup. She bested Maja Issler (Embry-Riddle) with a score of 6-2, 6-4. Her run would end in the next round however, at the hands of Salma Djoubri (Lynn), 6-2, 6-4. Djoubri would go on to win the entire tournament.
Polina Ligay ran into Natalie Espinal (Nova Southeastern) in her first matchup, and lost 6-2, 6-3 to the event semi-finalist.
Polina Vlasova was defeated by Hardija Vidnere of West Alabama, 6-2, 6-4. Groves faced her SSC rival Lavinia Lancellotti (Saint Leo), and also suffered defeat by the count of 6-2, 6-2.
The women will return to action on October 6-8 when they travel to Saint Leo for the Saint Leo Hidden Duals.
