TAMPA, Fla. (September 6, 2023) - Rollins and Tampa opened conference play on Saturday with a scoreless draw. The Tars now stand at 2-1-3 while the Spartans did not win for the first time this year, and are now 4-0-1.
All things considered, Rollins dominated in nearly every aspect of the game. They outshot Tampa 11-4, had five shots on target to the Spartans' one, took 13 corner kicks compared to one for Tampa, and played phenomenal defense throughout the contest.
The first shot on goal did not come until the 7th minute when
Hunter Myers' attempt was saved by Aidan Smith. It would end up being the only on-target strike for either time in the first period. Â
Half number two was a different story as Tampa took their only attempt on goal, followed by two attempts from the Tars in the first twelve minutes. Things stayed relatively quiet from there on. In the 88th minute,
Lexie Cooper was able to find enough space for a last-chance strike, but Smith recorded her 5th save of the night n the play, leading to the final of 0-0.
Cooper and Myers each had two shots on goal, with
Kayla Park chipping in one. Mehos saved the only shot that came at her.Â
This was the second time Rollins played in a scoreless match this season.
Next up for the Tars is a home match, their first in ten days, against #11 Embry-Riddle on Wednesday September 20. Kickoff is schedued for 7:00 pm.
