WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 21, 2023) - Two goals from Embry-Riddle in the final four minutes of play helped the #10 Eagles defeat Rollins 3-2 on Wednesday. The Tars move to 2-2-3 (0-0-1 SSC) on the year while Embry-Riddle remains unbeaten at 4-0-2 (1-0 SSC).
A weather delay pushed the 7:00 pm start time all the way to 9:20 before the ball was kicked off. The Eagles were the first to strike in the 19th minute when Lauryn Mateo intercepted a Rollins clear attempt and immediately fired on keeper
Lauren Mehos to put Embry-Riddle up 1-0.Â
Rollins toughened up on defense from there, and it led to more scoring opportunities for the Tars.
Kayla Park connected on a goal in the 35th minute when Val Acevedo led her beautifully on a sliding pass, allowing the southpaw kicker to deliver and tie things up.Â
About halfway into the second half,
Olivia Kramer made an amazing run to save a ball from going out of bounds. After juking a defender, she drove in and delivered a shot that was blocked by an Eagle defender. A scrum ensued for the loose ball before it ended up at the feet of Park once again. She collected herself and ripped an absolute rocket past the leaping keeper for her second brace of the night.Â
After playing great defense for the next twenty minutes, Embry-Riddle was able to score on a corner kick with less than four minutes remaining, followed by a free kick goal with under three minutes to go, giving them the 3-2 win.Â
The pair form Park give her four goals on the year, most on the team. The assist was Acevedo's second of the season.Â
Next up for Rollins is another home match on Saturday. They wil host the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at Cahall-Sandspur Field on September 23. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.Â
