Tars Streak Past Sailfish, 4-0

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Sept. 23, 2023) – The Rollins women's soccer team put on its strongest offensive showing in nearly two years on Saturday night, earning a 4-0 victory over visiting Palm Beach Atlantic. The Tars are now 3-2-3 overall, 1-0-1 in SSC games, while PBA drops to 1-3-2 overall and 0-2-0 in conference competition.

The last time the Tars found the back of the net four times was a 4-1 win at Lynn on Sept. 25, 2021, and their last four-plus goal performance at home was on Sept. 18, 2021, when they downed Shaw by a score of 5-0.

Kayla Park, Hunter Myers, Lexie Cooper, and Ally Shultz all scored goals on Saturday, with Cooper and Ryland McGratty also tallying assists. Lauren Mehos made a season-high six saves to earn her third shutout.

The first 15 minutes saw a lot of back-and-forth action, with Palm Beach Atlantic registering the only shot on goal, which was saved by Mehos. At the 18:35 mark, Cooper opened the scoring with a tap-in after a corner kick bounced around in the box and landed at her feet.

Mehos was asked to make two more saves throughout the remainder of the half, which she was able to do, keeping Rollins up 1-0 at the break.

Nearly 12 minutes into the second half, Park made it 2-0 Tars as she finished a goal from a brilliant pass from McGratty. About 13 minutes later, Shultz scored on a feed from Cooper to make it 3-0. The final goal of the night came in an unusual fashion, as Myers launched a free kick from just shy of midfield that fooled the PBA goalkeeper and bounced in for the fourth tally of the night.

Park's goal gives her a team-leading five on the year, while Cooper now has two goals and an assist, tied for second on the team with five points. McGratty's assist also gives her five points on the season, and Myers and Shultz each notched their first goals of the season.

UP NEXT:
The Tars are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 27, when they look to exact revenge on Embry-Riddle in a road contest slated for 7 p.m. in Daytona Beach. Unlike their meeting three days ago, next week's game counts in the conference standings.
