ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 6, 2023) – The Rollins softball team got back in the win column with a 3-0 shutout at Eckerd on Thursday night in the series opener between the two teams. The win lifts the Tars to 24-14 overall, 8-11 in SSC play, while the Tritons fall to 20-13, 5-11 in conference games.
Ashley Worrell went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored in her first game back since February, while
Jaden Walker was 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.
Claire Long and
Ashley Troutman were each 2-for-3, with Troutman adding two stolen bases to set a new single-season school record.
Emily MacMullen (14-9) tossed her fifth complete game shutout of the season, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out six.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Troutman led off the game with a single to left and promptly stole second base, giving her 45 steals on the season, which set a new school record for stolen bases in a single season.
Second Inning
- Worrell started the second with a base hit up the middle and moved to second on a single from Long.
- Walker then doubled, plating Worrell with the game's first run.
- After the Tritons cut down a run at the plate, Emma Gipple delivered a two-out single to score Walker, making it 2-0 Tars.
Sixth Inning
- Worrell added an insurance run with a leadoff homer in the sixth, pushing the lead to 3-0.
Seventh Inning
- MacMullen set down Eckerd in order in the seventh to complete the shutout and preserve the 3-0 victory.

The Tars and Tritons will finish up the series with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 12 p.m.
