SARASOTA, Fla. (April 1, 2023) – The Rollins Women's Rowing team competed in seven events this weekend and took a medal in four of those events. The Women's JV 8 took first in their race beating the University of Florida. The boat comprised of
Dinah Rofman,
Justine Hickey,
Lillian Groves,
Alexandria Freeman,
Nina Nikolic,
Morgan Lane,
Kendall Boardman,
Erin Hughes, and
Emily Quezada took an early lead and never relinquished it. This boat was made up of four freshman who had never taken a stroke in their life before attending Rollins. Silver medals were earned by the Women's Novice 4 (
Brianne Engel,
Carolyn Darcy,
Francesca Morgan-Tomascik,
Khloe Smith, and
Olivia Prelog), Women's JV4 (Rofman, Freeman, Groves, Hickey, Quezeda) and the Women's Novice 8 (Engel, Darcy, Prelog, Smith, Nikolic, Lane, Boardman,
Julia Wike, and
Sarah Monroy).
The women's varsity 8 finished 4th and made a good showing in the Division II rowing world. "They are making up ground on the lead crews and there is still time to find speed in these women," said Head Coach
Shawn Pistor. "I am very pleased with what we put out there this weekend. There are things we can execute better and still room for fitness from our team."
Many of the women rowed two and three races and jumped in boats they had not practiced during the week. We will continue to race and expect nothing but the best from our team.
The women have an extra week to prepare for SIRA in Oak Ridge, Tennessee for the Southern Rowing Championships (SIRA). The team will continue its quest to move up the rankings in Division 2 while giving our younger rowers the opportunity to grow and compete.
UP NEXT:
SIRA will be held Saturday, April 15, and Sunday, April 16. The regatta will be live streamed and a link will be available on RollinsSports.com.
