Hansen Sets Single-Game Scoring Record in 24-14 Senior Day Victory Over Saint Leo

Rollins ran away with nine fourth-quarter goals to blow out the Lions

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 15, 2023) – The sixth-ranked Rollins men's lacrosse team kept its perfect conference record intact with a 24-14 win over visiting Saint Leo on Saturday. With the victory, the Tars go to 11-1 on the year and 5-0 in SSC play, while the Lions drop to 8-6, 3-3 in conference.

Grant Hansen broke the program record for goals in a game with eight, while Justin White added five goals and an assist. Mikey Berkman, Logan Myers, and William Metz all tallied two goals and two assists. Lake Baker was 11-for-24 in faceoffs with a team-high eight ground balls and Shahé Katchadurian (10-1) got the win in goal, making 14 saves on 27 shots faced in 56:37 of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Hansen got on the board early, opening the scoring at the 13:36 mark of the first.
  • William Metz and Harrison Key got the next two goals before Saint Leo got its first, making it 3-1.
  • Hansen and Myers netted the next two goals, with the Lions answering with a single goal to give the Tars a 5-2 lead after one quarter.
Second Quarter
  • White scored his first of the day 86 seconds into the second, but Saint Leo responded with two quick goals to make it 6-4.
  • William Metz and Hansen helped to stem the tide with two goals in 31 seconds, pushing the lead to 8-4.
  • After a Lion go, Hansen added two more in the final 4:04 of the second, lifting the margin to 10-5 at the half.
Third Quarter
  • White opened the scoring in the second half, though Saint Leo found the net four straight times after that, making it an 11-9 game.
  • After a potential 10th Lion goal was disallowed, Hansen quickly scored his fifth of the game, with White following shortly thereafter to make it a 13-9 game and help swing the momentum back to Rollins.
  • Following a single SLU goal, White put home his fourth and fifth goals of the day to make it 15-10.
  • The Lions got a late goal to make it a 15-11 game heading to the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
  • Hansen tucked home his seventh of the day for the opening goal of the final period, which would prove to be the first of nine Tar goals in the frame.
  • Jack Johnstone was next to score, putting the home team up 17-11.
  • Myers would score in between two more Saint Leo goals, making it 18-13, but the Tars would dominate from that point.
  • Johnstone scored again just eight seconds after the Lions' goal, and Berkman put home two straight goals in just over a minute to make it 21-13.
  • Hansen then broke the record with his eighth of the day just nine seconds after Berkman's second, and Zane Williams got in on the act just 32 seconds later to make it 23-13.
  • After a final Lion goal, Peter Buell, Jr. put his name in the scorebook with the game's final tally, giving Rollins a 24-14 victory.
