WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 12, 2023) – The eighth-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team bounced back after Saturday's loss to easily handle 16th-ranked Lynn on Wednesday, 14-10. The Tars move to 13-1 on the year and 3-1 in conference play, while the Fighting Knights drop to 10-5, 1-3 in SSC action.
Caroline Gastonguay tallied six goals and four ground balls to lead the Tars, while
Charlotte Gastonguay pitched in with three goals and a ground ball.
Abigail Cawley racked up six points on a goal and five assists, while
Claire Reist added two goals and
Grace Sweetak posted four ground balls.
Claire Barber got the win in goal to improve to 5-1, making 11 saves on 21 shots faced.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Lynn opened the scoring just under four-and-a-half minutes into the game, with Caroline Gastonguay answering just over 90 seconds later to tie the game at one.
- After another Fighting Knight goal, Caroline Gastonguay put home her second of the game to tie things once again.
- LU took a 3-2 lead with 6:11 to go in the quarter, but Caroline Bailey knotted the game for a third time with the final goal of the frame.
Second Quarter
- Rollins took its first lead of the contest when Abigail Cawley scored at the 10:20 mark of the second to make it 4-3.
- Reist followed up less than a minute later to double the lead to 5-3.
- Following a Lynn goal, Caroline Gastonguay and Reist each found the net less than 30 seconds apart to build the advantage to 7-4.
- The Fighting Knights got one back, only to see Charlotte Gastongauy score her first of the game with 92 seconds left in the half, giving the Tars an 8-5 lead at the break.
Third Quarter
- Rollins got the first three goals of the third, two from Caroline Gastonguay and one from Charlotte Gastonguay, pushing the lead to 11-5.
- After a Lynn goal, both Gastonguays scored another goal, increasing the margin to 13-6.
- The Fighting Knights scored with 1:47 left thin the third, but Molly Mendes countered that with a marker in the dying seconds of the frame, lifting the Tars to a 14-7 lead after three quarters of play.
Fourth Quarter
- Lynn scored three times in the fourth to cut the deficit to 14-10, but the Tars were able to comfortably hold on for the win.
