TAMPA, Fla. (April 15, 2023) – The eighth-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team came up short in a battle of top ten teams on Saturday, falling to No. 4 Tampa by a score of 17-7.
Charlotte Gastonguay scored two goals while
Caroline Gastonguay tallied a goal, a ground ball, and two caused turnovers.
Claire Barber (5-2) took the loss in goal, making eight saves on 25 shots faced.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- After Tampa scored the opening goal, Charlotte Gastonguay and Jorie Alf scored 44 seconds apart to put the Tars in front, 2-1.
- The Spartans responded with three straight goals before Abigail Cawley scored, giving Tampa a 4-3 lead.
- UT found the net in the closing seconds of the quarter, taking a 5-3 lead after 15 minutes.
Second Quarter
- The Spartans kept the Tars off the scoreboard in the second quarter while netting four goals, giving the home team a 9-3 lead at the half.
Third Quarter
- Tampa scored twice to open the third before Charlotte Gastonguay put home her second goal, cutting the deficit to 11-4.
- After another Spartan goal, Caroline Bailey found the net to make it 12-5.
- UT tacked on three more goals to go up 15-5 heading to the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- Caroline Gastongauay scored the first goal of the final quarter and Abigail DeGroat tallied the final goal, with Tampa scoring twice in between, accounting for the 17-7 final score.
