WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 4, 2023) - The Rollins men's rowing team hosted Embry-Riddle in the TARS Regatta on Lake Maitland on Saturday. The Tars got the season off to a solid start, picking up a win in the Varsity Four race and battling the Eagles to a close finish in the Varsity Eight race.

The men's Varsity Four "B" boat, rowed by
Theodore Preaus,
Cooper Richart,
John Patrick McClear,
Samuel McCullen, and
Flynn Conway, won their race by 13 seconds over the Rollins Lightweights, 16 seconds over Embry-Riddle and also bested the Rollins Novice Four.
Rollins entered two boats in the Varsity Eight race and the varsity boat, which included Preaus,
Costa Demetriades,
Reese Duntley,
Timothy Edwards, Conway,
Fredrik Bang-Andreasen,
Grant Dougherty, Richart, and
Beau Christopher, was beat by Embry-Riddle by just three seconds. This was the first race for the men today and the first time lining up against an opponent for the 2023 season. Rollins and ERAU jumped off the line and after the start phase, the two crews were bowball to bowball. Through the middle thousand of the race, Embry-Riddle slowly edged ahead. The Tars never lost contact with the Eagles and once the crews rowed through the 1500m buoys, Rollins made a huge push to try and pull out the win. "They showed a lot of maturity to keep their composure and fight till the end," said Assistant Coach
Brandon Thompson. Rollins closed the gap to just three seconds and look forward to seeing ERAU again later in the season.
