BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 4, 2023) - The Rollins Tars suffered their first SSC loss of the season, and also snapped their eight-game win streak on Saturday at the hands of the Lynn fighting Knights. Rollins now stands at 10-4 on the year with a 4-1 record in SSC play. Lynn improves to 8-6-1.
The Knights got on the board in their first at bat, scoring two unearned runs off starter
Nick Berger. Rollins erased the deficit in the top of the second when Jimmy Theis launched his second dinger of the year, plating himself and
Cameron Meehan.
Lynn reclaimed the lead in the bottom half on a sac fly, but Rollins would tie things up again in the fourth when
Ryan Coleman led off the inning with his third home run of the week.
In the top of the sixth,
Jorge Ramirez joined the club with a solo shot of his own.In the seventh,
Parker Smith also connected on a longball, his team-leading sixth of the year, to put Rollins up 5-3. The Tars threatened further damage with two men in scoring position with two outs, but a strikeout quelled the threat.
Meehan smashed the fifth home run of the day for Rollins in the top of the eighth inning, making it a 6-3 ballgame. Again, the Tars left two men stranded on base.
The wheels fell off for the Tars in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Knights leadoff man reached on an error, and was followed by a wild pitch single, bunt single, walk, double, intentional walk, hit by pitch, wild pitch, and three-run homer. When all was said and done, Lynn had taken an 11-6 lead. The eight runs in the eighth is exactly what the Tars did to Lynn during Friday's series opener.
Coleman was 2-4, his third multi-hit game of the week. Smith reached base three times on two hits and a walk.
Adams Torres had two doubles, and leads the team in batting average at .431.
The rubber match of the series will take place on Sunday with a noon first pitch.
