Sunday Win Secures Series Victory

Rollins defeated Lynn 6-3 on Sunday afternoon

BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 5, 2023) - The Rollins Tars clinched their second SSC series of the season by defeating the Lynn Fighting Knights 6-3 on Sunday afternoon. Rollins now stands at 11-4 on the season, with a 5-1 record in conference play.

The Tars struck early in the top of the first. Joey Rubin led off with a walk, moved to third on an Adams Torres base hit, and scored on a Ryan Coleman single.

Rollins would add two more in the second inning thanks to an error from Lynn and a groundout. Stephen Deans and Drew Howard both scored unearned runs in the inning.

In the third, Jeslyn Whitehead led off with a single and came around to score on an RBI from Cameron Meehan to make it 4-0. Lynn would break through for a pair in the fourth, halving the lead.

The fifth saw Whitehead come through once again, this time doubling with one out. Coleman was up next, driving in his teammate with his second hit of the game.

Lynn scored once in the sixth to make it 5-3, and threatened more. However, Tate Stone-Frisina was able to induce a double play to escape the jam without any further damage.

Rollins got the run back in the seventh when Rubin led off with a single, stole second base, and scored on a Torres base knock. This made the final score of 6-3.

Stone-Frisina kept the Knights off the board in the eighth and ninth, including a gutsy effort in the eighth when he struck out the side. He would end up with the win and a line of five innings, three hits, one run and five strikeouts.

Coleman led the offense with two hits and two RBI. He had four multi-hit games this week.

Monday marks the beginning of the annual Baseball Week at Rollins. The Tars will be in action Monday night at 5pm against Saginaw Valley State.
