HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Luke Dinges swam the 200-yard butterfly, clocking a 1:47.28 to finish the prelims 11th, which put him in the consolation final later in the evening.
- In the consolation final, Dinges swam a 1:47.56, which placed him 11th once again, making him a Second Team All-American and scoring six points for the team total.
- Chance Ricca posted a 20th-place time of 4:31.12 in the 500-yard freestyle prelims, narrowly missing out on advancing to the finals by just over two seconds.
- With Dinges' six points, the men are now tied for 28th place in the team standings.
- For the women, Alonna Clark finished the 500-yard freestyle prelims in a tie for 18th place with a time of 4:59.32; because the 17th- and 18th-place finishers in that event come back as alternates for the finals, she competed against Ellie Walker of Drury in a swim-off, but unfortunately came up short.
- Jill Hughes also swam the 500-yard freestyle, clocking a 5:00.26 to finish 27th in the prelims.
- Abigayle Wood made her NCAA Championships debut, placing 26th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.55.
- After three days of competition, the women are tied for 36th place with one point.
UP NEXT:
The Tars will wrap up the NCAA Championships tomorrow, with Wood returning to the water to swim the 200-yard breaststroke, while Hughes and Ricca will each compete in the 1650-yard freestyle event.
