Tars Tripped Up at Lynn

Rollins rallied to take the third set but couldn't complete the comeback

BOCA RATON, Fla. (Nov. 4, 2023) – The Rollins volleyball team came up short at Lynn on Saturday, falling 3-1 (25-13, 25-9, 23-25, 25-21). With the loss, the Tars are now 14-12 overall, 6-9 in SSC play, while the Fighting Knights improve to 20-7, 11-5 in conference matches.
 
Lana Gerard had a team-high 14 kills and 14 digs to go along with a match-leading three service aces. Jadyn Troutman added 12 kills while Adriana Lopez picked up 14 digs to tie for the team lead and Natalie Horsley registered a team-leading 30 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • An early 5-0 run gave Lynn a 7-2 lead, and before long the Fighting Knights extended their advantage to 16-5.
  • Rollins was only able to string together back-to-back points once in the frame as Lynn won it, 25-13.
Set Two
  • LU opened up a 9-2 lead in the second and quickly pulled away, building the margin to double-digits at 16-6.
  • The Tars struggled to get anything going offensively as Lynn won the set, 25-9.
Set Three
  • The third set saw Lynn take an early 12-7 lead, but the Blue and Gold rallied with five straight points to even things up at 12.
  • After the Fighting Knights regained the lead, Rollins rattled off six straight points, including two aces from Lopez, to pull ahead, 22-18.
  • Lynn got back to within a point, but a Gerard kill clinched the set with the Tars taking it, 25-23.
Set Four
  • Set four began with Lynn opening up an 11-7 lead early.
  • The Tars kept it close until a 6-1 run pushed the Fighting Knight lead to 21-13.
  • Rollins responded with a 7-2 burst to close the gap to just three points at 23-20, but Lynn was able to win two of the final three rallies to win the set, 25-21, clinching the match three sets to one.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will return to the court next weekend as they continue this five-match road trip at No. 2 Tampa on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.
