Volleyball Bested by Barry

Rollins comes up short in a road tilt on Friday night

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Nov. 3, 2023) – The Rollins volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-18) decision at Barry on Friday night to drop to 14-11 on the season, 6-8 in SSC matches. The Buccaneers improved to 9-15 overall and 3-12 in conference play with the victory.
 
Jadyn Troutman led the Tars with 12 kills and added two solo blocks while Lana Gerard tallied nine kills and four digs. Emma Begley led all players with a .750 attack percentage (6-0-8) and had three blocks (one solo). Adriana Lopez collected a match-leading 12 digs and Natalie Horsley totaled a match-best 35 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • Barry jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the first and never surrendered it.
  • The Tars strung together four straight points to get within three at 15-12, but the Bucs answered with a 5-1 run to pull away to a 20-13 advantage.
  • Rollins scored three consecutive points late in the frame, but Barry closed it out with a 25-19 win.
Set Two
  • After a back-and-forth beginning to the frame, the Blue and Gold used a 6-1 burst to take a 19-15 lead in the second set.
  • BU responded with a 6-2 rally that brought things to level terms at 21-21.
  • The two sides traded sideouts until a service ace gave the Bucs set point at 24-23.
  • Gerard knotted the set at 24 with a kill, but Barry got the next two points to win the set, 26-24.
Set Three
  • The third set saw the Tars take an early 7-4 lead, only to see the Bucs win nine of the next 11 points to go up 13-9.
  • Rollins quickly got back to within two at 14-12, but that was as close as the set would get, with Barry pulling away late for a 25-18 win to complete the 3-0 sweep.

The Tars will be back at it tomorrow as they travel to Lynn for a 4 p.m. contest.
