Horsley Reaches 2,000 Assists in Loss at Florida Southern

The junior setter reached the milestone in the second set of Saturday's match

LAKELAND, Fla. (Nov. 11, 2023) – The Rollins volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-19) at Florida Southern on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Tars fall to 14-14 on the year, 6-11 in conference play, while the Mocs improve to 18-9 overall, 11-7 in SSC matches.
 
Jadyn Troutman had a team-high 11 kills while Lana Gerard picked up a team-leading 11 digs to go along with seven kills and Natalie Horsley dished out a match-high 23 assists. Horsley also eclipsed the 2,000-assist plateau in her Rollins career in the second set.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • FSC scored the first three points of the match, but Rollins quickly battled back to go up by a score of 7-4.
  • A 10-3 run for the Mocs gave the home team an 18-12 lead, and Florida Southern continued to push, eventually winning the set, 25-16.
Set Two
  • Just like the opening set, FSC got the first three points and Rollins came back, this time tying things at 4-4.
  • An 11-2 burst put Florida Southern comfortably in front at 18-8, and the Mocs would go on to win the frame, 25-13.
  • One highlight to note in the second set was Horsley's 2,000th assist as a Tar, which came on a kill from Emily Diaz in the midst of FSC's 11-2 run.
Set Three
  • The third set saw Rollins jump out to an early 3-1 lead, and the Tars pushed their lead to as big as 7-4.
  • Florida Southern responded with an 8-1 run that put the home team ahead, 12-8.
  • The Tars kept things close, trailing by no more than four points until FSC finished the frame on a 5-2 burst to win it, 25-19.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will be back on the court on Tuesday, November 14 when they travel to Daytona Beach to take on Embry-Riddle in a 7 p.m. contest.
