Rollins Sweeps Saint Leo

The Tars got double-digit kills from three players on Saturday

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Oct. 28, 2023) – The Rollins volleyball team returned to the win column on Saturday with a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 28-26, 25-19) of Saint Leo. With the win, the Tars improved to 14-10, 6-7 in SSC play, while the Lions fell to 9-13 overall, 4-9 in conference play.
 
Lana Gerard and Jadyn Troutman each tallied a match-high 12 kills, while Makayla Moran chipped in with 10 kills and a .500 attack percentage. Adriana Lopez led all players with 11 digs, and Natalie Horsley racked up a match-high 40 assists to go along with nine digs and a team-high four blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • The first set was close until the Tars used a 4-1 run to go up 14-12.
  • A few points later, Rollins embarked on a set-closing 10-4 burst to win the frame, 25-18.
Set Two
  • Saint Leo held a lead for a majority of set two, but Rollins jumped to the lead late with a 7-1 run that gave the home team a 23-19 lead.
  • SLU then won five of the next six points to tie things up at 24.
  • After trading sideouts for a while, Rollins got a kill from Emily Diaz to earn set point which was followed by an attack error from Saint Leo, giving the Tars the set, 28-26.
Set Three
  • The Tars wasted no time taking an early lead in the fourth, jumping out to an 11-4 lead.
  • The closest Saint Leo was able to get was three points (22-19), but the Blue and Gold wrapped up the match by winning the final three points to claim the frame, 25-19, and complete the sweep.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will be back at it next weekend when they kick off a five-match road trip on Friday, Nov. 3 at Barry. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Miami Shores.
