WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 25, 2023) - Women's soccer saw their four-game win streak snapped on Wednesday as they fell 2-0 to the Florida Tech Panthers. The Tars now stand at 8-5-3 (5-3-1 SSC), while the Panthers improve to 10-1-3, 7-1-1 SSC.
The first half was a defensive clinic from the Tars. While Tech controlled possession for the majority of the half, the result was a zero on the scoreboard thanks to tremendous defensive play from the Tars. Goalie
Lauren Mehos was especially impressive, recording three saves in the first. Offensively, Rollins managed only one shot on target in the opening period.
Florida Tech came out firing in the second half, putting a pair of shots in the vicinity of Mehos within the first three minutes, but the freshman was able to defend her goal, including a stymie of a quality look as Josefine Nilson came charging at her with a full head of steam.
After three more shots were saved, the Panthers finally broke through in the 82nd minute. Maren Ndiongue worked her way through a couple of defenders and led Nilson perfectly with a through ball that was sent to the right side of the net for the first goal of the game.
Three minutes later, with Florida Tech pressing on offense once again, a foul was called on Rollins inside the box, leading to a penalty kick. Lauryn Wood delivered for the Panthers, making the final of 2-0.
This was the first scoreless effort for Rollins since September 16 against Tampa, a span of nine games.
The last game of the regular season will take place on Halloween, October 31, at home in Winter Park. It will be senior night, as the coaching staff will honor their graduating class before the 7:00 pm kickoff.
