WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 31, 2023) - Women's soccer wrapped up their regular season in style, posting a 3-0 shutout over the Saint Leo Lions. The win moves Rollins to 9-5-3 overall, and they finish their SSC play with a 6-3-1 record. Saint Leo wraps up their year at 4-7-5, 1-5-4 SSC.
It took eleven minutes of play before a shot was counted as on goal, a rip from
Ally Shultz.
Jessie Wade would another on target a few minutes later, but that was also stopped by Hannah Goetzer. Rollins finally broke through in the 23rd minute when
Blaire Pressley delivered a nice cross that bounced off a defender and landed at the feet of Wade, who chipped it past Goetzer to put the Tars up 1-0.Â
Around the 30-minute mark, the Tars unleashed a trio of shots, but again they were all stopped. The fourth attempt would not be denied, however. After
Kayla Park worked around the Lions defense, she dropped the ball off to Pressley, who lined up an absolute rocket, bending it past the keeper to make it 2-0, the halftime score.Â
The second half saw one goal, a third for the Tars. On a set piece, Park delivered a ball to the far side of the goal, where Bri Drayton was waiting to head it in. From there, the Tars played lock down defense, allowing zero shots on target in the final half.Â
Freshman
Lauren Mehos recorded two saves in the first half on her way to her fifth clean sheet of the season. Park's two assists give her eight on the year, second-most in the SSC.Â
Before the game, the senior class of 2023 was honored by coaches and teammates. This year's crop included:
Elena Beasley,
Michelle Fickett,
Lizzie Hill,
Riley Hourihan,
Hunter Myers,
Anna Todd, and
Sophia Olore.Â
The win clinched the #4 seed for Rollins in the SSC tournament. As a result, they will host #5 Eckerd on Monday, November 6. Earlier in the year, the Tars defeated the Tritons 1-0 in St Petersburg.Â
