ORLANDO, Fla. (Oct. 21, 2023) – The Rollins volleyball team completed a 3-0 weekend at the South Region Crossover with a 3-1 (18-25, 25-10, 25-23, 25-20) win over Valdosta State on Saturday. With the win, the Tars go to 13-9 on the year, while the Blazers fall to 15-8.
Lana Gerard and
Jadyn Troutman each recorded a team-high 16 kills, with
Emily Diaz chipping in with 10 kills. Troutman also led the team with three blocks, while Gerard tied with
Adriana Lopez for the match lead with 16 digs.
Natalie Horsley tallied a match-leading 46 assists to go along with nine digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
- The Tars held a 15-12 lead in the opening set, but VSU went on a 13-3 run to close out the frame to win it, 25-18.
Set Two
- Set two saw Rollins win the first eight points, helping the Blue and Gold to eventually run out to a 17-5 advantage.
- The Tars didn't let up, with Gerard putting down back-to-back kills to end the frame at 25-10.
Set Three
- The third set saw the Tars again start strong, jumping out to a 10-6 lead early.
- Valdosta State battled back, eventually pulling ahead by a score of 22-20.
- A kill from Molly Norris sparked a 4-0 burst for the Blue and Gold, and two points later a Troutman kill closed things out at 25-23, giving Rollins a 2-1 edge in the match.
Set Four
- Rollins continued its trend of strong starts in the fourth, holding an 8-4 advantage in the early going.
- VSU again fought back, eventually inching ahead, 16-15, but a Troutman kill sparked a 7-1 run that lifted the Tars to a 22-17 lead.
- The Blue and Gold maintained a comfortable lead over the final few points, closing it out on a Gerard kill to clinch the set, 25-20, securing the 3-1 win.
UP NEXT:
The Tars will return home next weekend, beginning with a 7 p.m. contest against Eckerd on Friday, Oct. 27. That match will also be Rollins' annual Dig Pink night, where the Tars will wear pink uniforms that will be auctioned off online, in addition to selling pink t-shirts in the lobby, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Side-Out Foundation.
