Tars Spear Sailfish, 3-0

Rollins earned its first win in nearly 10 years over Palm Beach Atlantic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 13, 2023) – The Rollins volleyball team swept the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on the road on Friday night, 25-15, 25-23, 25-21. The win lifts the Tars to 10-8 overall, 5-5 in conference play, while PBA drops to 7-10, 3-7 in SSC matches.

Emma Begley led the Tars with 10 kills with five blocks (two solo) while Lana Gerard and Jadyn Troutman each added eight kills. Natalie Horsley led the team with 26 assists to go along with seven digs and four kills, and Sarah Seabrooke led all players with 10 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • Rollins put the pressure on early, jumping out to a 12-2 lead in the opening set.
  • The Tars maintained a double-digit lead for a majority of the frame, cruising to a 25-15 win.
Set Two
  • Set two saw the Blue and Gold take an early 8-4 lead, but PBA battled back to tie things at 10.
  • Later in the set, the Tars went on a 6-1 run to turn a 17-15 deficit into a 21-18 lead.
  • The Sailfish responded with three straight points to tie it at 21, but Begley put down a kill to regain the lead for Rollins.
  • A few points later, Begley registered kills to give the Tars set point at 24-22 and to clinch the frame, 25-23, giving the Blue and Gold a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set Three
  • Palm Beach Atlantic took an early 5-1 lead in the third, but after a service error gave the Tars the serve, they rattled off five more points to make it a 6-0 run, putting Rollins ahead, 7-5.
  • PBA answered back, using a 5-0 burst to go up, 11-8.
  • An 8-2 spurt from the Blue and Gold put the Tars up 18-15, which would prove to be a lead they wouldn't surrender.
  • The Sailfish closed the gap to one at 21-20, but a kill from Horsley sparked a match-closing 4-1 run that resulted in a 25-21 set three win for Rollins, completing the 3-0 sweep.
