AMERICUS, Ga. (September 7, 2022) - The Rollins Tars were back to their stingy defensive ways on Wednesday, but did not have the offense to claim a victory, leading to a 0-0 draw against Georgia Southwestern. Rollins now sits at 3-1-2 on the year, while the Hurricanes move to 3-1-1.
In the first four games of the year, Rollins allowed only one goal. Then, in their first loss of the season on Sunday, they allowed three goals to #4 Columbus State. They refocused and brought a tenacious defensive effort to the pitch on Wednesday. They limited the Hurricanes to only two total shots in the first half as their relentless efforts in the midfield wreaked havoc on the Canes offense. On the offensive side, the Tars had a few decent looks, but were shut down by GSW keeper Grace O'Shaughnessy. Despite Rollins outshooting the Hurricanes 5-2, and also winning the corner kick battle 3-1, the two teams went in to the half tied at zero.
It looked like the Tars would have a chance to break things open about eight minutes into the second half. By dominating possession, Rollins took four shots and had two corner kicks in a seven minute span. Unfortunately, the Hurricanes were up to snuff on defense, keeping the game scoreless. The remainder of the half saw a lot of back-and-forth, but lacked any highlight reel play.
Alice Tesser had the last chance to break the tie for the Tars in the 81st minute, but her shot was once again saved by O'Shaughnessy, giving her five for the game.
Her counterpart,
Elena Beasley, didn't see nearly as much volume, but did manage two saves in her fourth clean sheet of the season.
Next up for the Tars is the SSC home opener. Rollins will host the Lynn Fighting Knights on Saturday, September 10 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 pm.
