Tars Back in the Win Column on Saturday

Rollins defeated Lynn 2-1 on Saturday evening

WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 10, 2022) - Whatever was said at halftime did the trick for the Rollins Tars on Saturday night. They scored twice in the second half and held on for a 2-1 win against SSC foe Lynn. The win moves Rollins to 4-1-2 (1-0 SSC) on the year while Lynn falls to 2-3-0 (0-1 SSC).

The first half of the match was well played on both ends by both teams. It included a handful of saves from Rollins goalkeeper Michelle Fickett, who was making her first career start between the pipes. The Tars outshot the Knights 8-3 in the half, but only one of those strikes was on target. The two teams headed to halftime tied at nil.

The second half was a completely different story as Rollins went extremely aggressive on offense. The action paid off almost immediately as defender Anna Todd ripped a laser from more than 20 feet away that bounced on the underside of the crossbar and went in for her first goal of the year. A mere seven minutes later, playing off a Tars corner kick, there was a mad scrum from the ball in front of the goal. Eventually Gabby Boyd was able to punch the ball through the throng of players and into the net to extend the lead to 2-0.

With 37 minutes still to play, Rollins continued to attack and keep the ball away from Lynn as much as possible. It looked like the Tars had secured a third goal when Olivia Kramer landed a header in net, but offsides was called on the play to nullify the goal.

Credit to Lynn who kept fighting throughout the game. Their persistence paid off when Anniina Sankoh was able to head in a corner feed from Katja Orschmann to cut the lead in half with five minutes remaining. The Knights did as much as they could to get the ball back, but the seasoned Tars were able to play keep away effectively, and took home the 2-1 win.

Todd's goal was the second of her career; Boyd's was her second of the season.

Next up for the Tars is another home game. Rollins will host Eckerd on Saturday, September 17 at Cahall-Sandspur Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
