Fifth-Ranked Tampa Too Much for Tars

Rollins returns to the court in just three days for a Tuesday contest at Embry-Riddle

TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 24, 2022) – The Rollins volleyball team took on No. 5 Tampa on Saturday and the fifth-ranked Spartans came away with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-13) victory. The Tars are now 4-10 on the season and 2-4 in SSC play, while Tampa moves to 12-1 overall, 5-1 in conference matches. 
 
Four Tars registered four kills each, including Emma Begley, Tess Margio, Emma Rome, and Emily Diaz, who also hit .571 in the contest. Natalie Horsley tallied a team-high 13 assists and Adriana Lopez picked up a team-leading 14 digs.
 
Mackenzie Dufresne and Hayley Dillon each tallied a math-best seven kills for UT, while Kallie Cors and Tess Schrenger both recorded six kills. Claudia Rivera collected a match-high 15 digs while Zoey Seput (16 assists) and Emily Noe (9 assists) shared the setting duties for Tampa.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • The Tars jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but the Spartans quickly turned things around to go up 10-6.
  • Rollins kept it close until Tampa went on a 5-1 run to extend its lead to 19-13.
  • UT closed out the set on a 4-1 spurt to win it, 25-18.
Set Two
  • Tampa scored the first three points of set two and pushed its early advantage to 8-2.
  • The Spartans slowly increased their lead, reaching double-digits at 22-12.
  • The home side didn't allow Rollins any opportunity to get back into it, closing out the frame at 25-15.
Set Three
  • UT took the opening six points of the third set and quickly held a 10-2 lead.
  • A 4-1 run brought the Tars back to within four at 13-9, but the Spartans would go on to win 12 of the final 16 rallies to win the set, 25-13, clinching the 3-0 sweep. 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will make the short trip to Daytona Beach on Tuesday, Sept. 27 to take on SSC foe Embry-Riddle at 7 p.m.
