WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 17, 2022) - Saturday's game was a tale of two halves, and provided plenty of excitement for the home crowd. Rollins secured their fifth win of the year, defeating the Eckerd Tritons 2-1 at home. The Tars now sit at 5-1-2 (2-0 SSC) on the year, while Eckerd moves to 4-2 (1-1 SSC).
After a week off from their last game, Rollins looked a bit flat in the first half of action against Eckerd. The Tritons seemed to move the ball around the field a little too easily against what is usually one of the top defenses in the conference. On the offensive end, Rollins did not get many good looks in the first half, firing off only two shots (one on goal). Eckerd meanwhile ripped off seven towards
Michelle Fickett, one of which went in. On a breakaway form the right side, Fickett made a fantastic save on a shot from Brooke Bisko, but the ball caromed right in front of the net where Annie Stook was waiting. She wrapped the ball around the right post, just past the outstretched hands of Fickett to put Eckerd up 1-0, a lead they would take into halftime.
Whatever was said in the locker room at halftime clicked, as the Tars came out in the second half extremely aggressive. The physicality of the game turned up quite a few notches as bodies on both sides started hitting the floor. Following a battle for the ball at midfield,
Anna Todd made a beautful slide tackle to knock the ball away from an Eckerd attacker.
Sarah Skala ended up with it, and deposited a gorgeous through ball down the left side to a streaking
Meghan Mosley. The fifth-year had no problem controlling the ball, and chipping it over the crashing goalkeeper with her left foot to knot the game up at one.
About 12 minutes late, opportunity presented itself once more. Again, it was a marvelous defensive effort from Todd, who deked an Eckerd player at midfield with a spin move, and passed the ball ahead to
Kayla Park. After making a move on a defender, Park found Mosley, and the Tritons immediately sent a double team at her. Without hesitating, Mosley flipped a touch pass to
Jessie Wade who gathered and fired a shot across the box past a diving keeper for the Tars' second goal of the night.
Eckerd had one final chance to score on a shot in the 78th minute, but Fickett was able to pick it, preserving the win.
Rollins was picky with their shot selection, only attacking eight times. However, seven of those were on goal. Comparatively, Eckerd shot ten times with four on goal.
Mosley led the way on offense with a goal and an assist. Wade's goal was the first of her career.
The Tars will be back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Saint Leo to take on the Lions, who sit at 5-1-1 on the year.
