SAINT LEO, Fla. (September 21, 2022) - It was a slugfest on the campus of Saint Leo University on Wednesday evening. When all was said and done, the Lions took home the victory 1-0 over the Rollins Tars. Rollins moves to 5-2-2 (2-1 SSC) on the year, while Saint Leo improves to 6-1-1 (2-1 SSC).
It was just one of those days for the Tars. They had opportunities in the first half, especially early on. Rollins started the game on a mission, with three shots against the Lions in the first six minutes, including on-target strikes from
Meghan Mosley and
Sarah Skala. The remainder of the first half played to a stalemate, though the final five minutes was exciting as the Lions fired three shots on goal, all of which were saved by
Michelle Fickett.
The only score of the game came in the eighth minute of the second half. A fantastic chip pass from Alicia Hills flew over everyone's head, bounced twice and was collected by Alex Collighan, who was able to control it and send it past Fickett to make the score 1-0.
From there, it was a defensive showcase for Saint Leo, who allowed only one more shot from the Tars in the final 37 minutes of the game.
Aside from the lone goal, Fickett was solid in the net, saving seven shots on the night.
Rollins will travel again on Saturday as they head to Palm Beach Atlantic to face the Sailfish. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
