Mosley Leads Tars Past Lakers

Rollins defeated Clayton State 3-1 on Tuesday evening

MORROW, Ga. (August 30, 2022) - Meghan Mosley scored twice while freshman Lexie Cooper netted her first college goal in a 3-1 Rollins win against the Clayton State Lakers on Tuesday evening. That's two wins in a row for Rollins, who remain unbeaten on the season at 2-0-1. Clayton State falls to 0-2-0.

Mother nature was not kind to the two teams, as rain and lightning forced the two teams off the field just three minutes into their 4:00 pm kickoff. After a lengthy delay, both squads returned to the pitch, with Rollins controlling most of the first half. In the 23rd minute, Mosley came away with the ball after it was mishandled by a Laker defender. She streaked down the left side, past a defender, and then chipped the ball with her left foot past the Clayton State keeper for the first goal of the game.

A wave of substitutions on both sides was the only excitement for the next ten minutes until the Tars struck again. In the 36th minute, Sophia Olore collected a ball at midfield and sent a beautiful through ball down the right side of the field. In stride, Mosley was able to control the ball, juke out half the city of Morrow, and ended up on the left side of the goal for an easy tap in for her second goal of the game. The Tars would carry the 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Tars were able to extend their lead to 3-0 in the 66th minute. Jessie Wade delivered a majestic through ball to a streaking Cooper who ran past three Laker defenders. After gaining control, she was able to deke the goalie and send the ball inside the right post for her first collegiate goal.

Head Coach Alicia Schuck wanted to get some playing time in for reserve keeper Michelle Fickett, who started the second half. Clayton State responded by sending a whopping 15 shots her way in the period. Seven of the shots were on goal, and Fickett ended the night with six saves. The only goal she allowed was on a penalty kick in the 75th minute.

Rollins would end up taking the match 3-1. The stats show a 20-8 shot advantage for the Lakers, but once again the Tars' defense held tough throughout the game. Next up for Rollins is a neutral site matchup with the West Georgia Wolves to be played at Embry-Riddle in Daytona on Friday, September 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
