WINTER PARK, Fla. (August 25, 2022) - In their first action of the 2022 season, the Rollins women's soccer team played to a draw against the University of Findlay Oilers at Cahall-Sandspur Field.
The Tars came out of the gates aggressively, applying intense defensive pressure. They absolutely dominated possession in the first half, and turned those possessions into a number of solid opportunities. The first came on a
Kayla Park header off of a corner kick that bounced off the crossbar. Minutes later,
Meghan Mosley put a solid strike on the net, but Kennedy Slovak dove for the save.
Alice Tesser added a shot on goal in the 13th minute that was also saved by Slovak.
The midfield play from Rollins was effective, limiting the Oilers to exactly zero shots in the first half. the two teams went into the break knotted at zero.
After switching sides, it was much of the same in the second half as Rollins remained the aggressor.
Gabby Boyd and Mosley each had shot attempts early on, but again the Findlay keeper was able to keep the Tars out of the net. Then, just before the 70th minute, a lightning strike forced both teams off the field and the game was suspended.
The match picked up on Friday afternoon with 20:37 to play. Each team had a couple of decent looks, including a Findlay corner kick that led to a header from Ellie Tischler that missed wide by inches. Rollins' best chance came with three minutes to go when a
Sarah Skala header sailed over the crossbar.
Though the stat sheet doesn't show it,
Hunter Myers played phenomenal individual defense, keeping the Oilers offense at bay.
Next up for the Tars is a home match versus Ashland University on Saturday, August 27. Kickoff is set for 10:00 am at Barker Family Stadium.
