WINTER PARK, Fla. (August 27, 2022) - The Rollins Tars found themselves in the win column for the first time in 2022 following a dominant 2-0 victory against the visiting Ashland Eagles on Saturday morning. The win moves Rollins to 1-0-1 on the year, while Ashland falls to 0-2-0.
Rollins entered attack mode right from kickoff. In the second minute,
Sarah Skala missed a beautiful strike by inches, bouncing it hard off the left post. Two minutes later,
Meghan Mosley put a shot on goal, but the Eagles' Brianna Rogers was able to turn it away. Then in the eleventh minute, a gorgeous display of ball movement led to a Tars goal.
Kayla Park fed Skala, and cut towards the net. After Skala passed it to Mosley, the senior delivered a perfect through ball to Park, who sent it past the diving keeper for the first goal of the 2022 season.Â
The Rollins defense once again held tough, hardly allowing the ball to cross the mid-field line. By halftime, Rollins had a huge advantage in shots, 8-2, over the Eagles as well as a 1-0 lead.Â
The second half was a defensive battle on both sides, as neither offense could find room for a decent look. Each side tried a couple of shots from deep, but all sailed high or wide. In the 73rd minute, following an aggressive attack from the Tars in which Ashland failed to clear the ball multiple times, Skala was able to rip an absolute rocket with her left foot from twenty feet out to extend the Tars' lead to 2-0.Â
Elena Beasley shut down all remaining shots that came here way, giving Rollins their first win of the year.Â
Next up for the Tars is a road game against Clayton State in Morrow, Georgia. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm on Tuesday, August 30.Â
