MELBOURNE, Fla. (April 23, 2022) – The Rollins softball team split a doubleheader at Florida Tech on Saturday, dropping the first game, 3-0, before coming back to win the series finale, 8-0 in six innings. With the split, the Tars now stand at 28-7 overall, 19-5 in SSC play, while the Panthers move to 32-20, 15-15 in conference games.
Game 1 – Florida Tech 3, Rollins 0
Ashley Troutman,
Raiven Bryant, and
Tyler Jo Colby each went 1-for-3 for the Tars. Emily Macmullen (11-3) took the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits in 5.1 innings, walking one and striking out three.
Mikayla Wessel finished 3-for-3 with three stolen bases for the Panthers, while Jolie Miracle was 1-for-3 with a solo home run. Alex Hendrian (10-7) got the win, allowing three hits and three walks in a complete game shutout with four strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sixth Inning
- The Panthers opened the sixth with a double and a single to put runners on the corners with nobody out.
- After a steal of second put both runners in scoring position, the Tars were able to cut down a run at the plate on a grounder back to Macmullen for the first out.
- A throwing error on a stolen base attempt then allowed the first run to score, and the Panthers later stole another run at the plate to go up 2-0.
- Miracle followed all of that with a solo homer to put Florida Tech ahead, 3-0.
Seventh Inning
- Rollins couldn't mount a comeback in the seventh, going down in order to drop the first game of the doubleheader, 3-0.
Game 2 – Rollins 8, Florida Tech 0
Grace Germer went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored in game two, while Bryant and
Chelsea Peace were both 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Taylor Waters finished 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs, and Troutman was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Ashley Worrell (15-3) pitched a six-inning complete game shutout, giving up just four hits and two walks.
Wessell was 2-for-3 while Chloe French went 1-for-2 with a walk for the Panthers. Kelsie Rivers (6-5) took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Second Inning
- Colby singled with one out in the second, and Germer backed that up with a double to put two runners in scoring position.
- Jaden Walker produced the first run with an RBI groundout to score Colby, and Waters followed that with a base hit to score Germer, making it 2-0.
Fourth Inning
- Germer started a string of three straight hits in the fourth with a bunt single with one out.
- Walker then reached on an infield single, and Waters followed with a base hit up the middle to score Germer with the Tars' third run.
Fifth Inning
- Troutman opened the fifth with a single and came around to score on Chelsea Peace's one-out single to left-center, pushing the lead to 4-0.
Sixth Inning
- Germer, Tristin Peace, and Waters registered back-to-back-to-back singles to begin the sixth.
- Sarah Young then drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Germer.
- Two batters later, Bryant singled home Tristin Peace and Waters to make it 7-0.
- Chelsea Peace then singled home Lexi Moore to extend the lead to 8-0.
- The Panthers couldn't get anything going in the sixth, with Worrell setting them down in order to finish off the 8-0 six-inning win.

The Tars return home next weekend to host Nova Southeastern in a three-game conference series. Game one is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, April 29.
