WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 13, 2022) – The 12th-ranked Rollins baseball team dropped the rubber game of its three-game series against Lynn on Sunday, falling to the Fighting Knights, 2-1. The loss drops the Tars to 18-4 overall, 4-2 in SSC play, while Lynn improves to 16-6 and 5-4 in conference games.
Chase Achuff went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while
Drew Howard was 0-for-1 with two walks, a stolen base, and a run scored.
Nick Berger started for the Tars, going 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Austin Long (0-1) took the loss, allowing a run on two hits in four innings of relief, walking two and striking out one.
Joseph Roselli finished 1-for-4 with an RBI for Lynn, while Byron Murray was 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored. Anthony Sanabria went 2-for-4 and Anthony Orrico was 2-for-5.
Marcus Eusebio started for the Fighting Knights, going four scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit and two walks while striking out four. Drew Dwyer (2-0) earned the win, tossing four innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit, walking two and striking out four. Jake Buxbaum earned his fifth save of the year, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Lynn threatened to score early, loading the bases after just the first three batters of the game.
- Berger got a strikeout and a ground ball double play to escape the jam.
Second Inning
- The Tars advanced runners to second and third with two outs but couldn't push across a run.
Third Inning
- Rollins again had a good scoring opportunity with runners on the corners with one out, but Eusebio was able to wiggle out of the situation unscathed once again.
Fifth Inning
- The Fighting Knights got on the board first, scoring on a wild pitch with two outs in the frame.
- The Tars quickly responded when Achuff doubled home Howard with two outs to tie the game at a run apiece.
Eighth Inning
- Lynn retook the lead on a two-out RBI single from Roselli.
- Long was able to keep it a one-run game by stranding the bases loaded.
Ninth Inning
- Buxbaum didn't allow the Tars a baserunner in the ninth as he nailed down the save.
UP NEXT:
The next regular season contest for the Tars will be Wednesday, March 16 when they travel to West Palm Beach to take on Palm Beach Atlantic in a non-conference game ahead of next weekend's three-game SSC series. First pitch for Wednesday's game is set for 6 p.m.
