WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (March 16, 2022) – The 14th-ranked Rollins baseball team held a 3-1 lead in the seventh inning on Wednesday, but ultimately came out on the losing end of a 4-3 score at Palm Beach Atlantic. The loss drops the Tars to 18-5 on the year while the Sailfish improve to 13-10. Although the game featured two SSC squads, it was not considered a conference contest.
Cameron Meehan went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a run scored, while
Chase Achuff was 2-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases, and an RBI.
Aidan Healy finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs and
Joey Rubin and
Adams Torres each went 1-for-5 with a run scored.
Tate Stone-Frisina started for Rollins, pitching five innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking four and striking out four.
Alfredo Caraballo (1-2) took the loss, giving up a run on a hit in 0.1 innings of relief.
Jeff Manto went 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run for the Sailfish, while Mikey Casaleggio was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.
Drew Holweger started for PBA, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits in five innings, walking one and striking out a pair. Christian Horner (1-0) got the win, tossing two shutout innings, surrendering two hits while striking out two. Justin Lovell earned his second save, pitching two perfect innings of relief with three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Rubin led off the game with a single and Achuff doubled him home to give the Tars an early 1-0 lead.
Third Inning
- The Sailfish tied things up on a bases loaded walk in the third.
Fourth Inning
- Rollins quickly regained the lead in the fourth when Meehan doubled to open the frame and Healy quickly followed with an RBI single to make it 2-1.
Sixth Inning
- Torres, Jeslyn Whitehead, and Meehan registered consecutive singles to open the sixth, loading the bases with nobody out.
- Healy then grounded into a fielder's choice that saw Torres score on a throwing error to make it 3-1 Tars.
- Horner was able to retire the next three Tars without allowing any further runs to score as Rollins left the bases loaded.
Seventh Inning
- PBA got within a run on a sacrifice fly and then took the lead on a two-out, two-run home run off the bat of Manto, putting the Sailfish up 4-3.
Eighth Inning
- Jeslyn Whitehead and Meehan singled to start the eighth, setting up runners on the corners with nobody out.
- Lovell struck out the next two batters, and then after hitting a batter, closed the inning with a third strikeout, marking the second time the Tars left three runners on in the game.
Ninth Inning
- Rollins got a baserunner in the ninth when Achuff was hit by a pitch with one out, but the Tars couldn't scratch across the tying run, falling 4-3.

The Tars will face the Sailfish this weekend in a three-game conference series. Game one is set for Friday, March 18 at 6 p.m.
