HICKORY, N.C. (February 25, 2022) – The Tars opened their road schedule with a convincing, 18-6, win over the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears. The Tars improve to 2-0 on the year. The Bears fall to 1-2 in the 2022 campaign.

Liz Fahey paced the Rollins offense with four goals.Â

Caroline Gastonguay, and
Charlotte Gastonguay each tallied hat tricks for the Tars.Â

Abigail Cawley each tallied a pair of assists.Â
Whitney MacMillan picked up, a game high, seven draw controls.Â
Rachel Schlesinger tallied three saves, while allowing just the six goals, playing the full 60 minutes in goal.

Suzy Smith led the Bears with a pair of scores. Kaitlyn Lehman registered a pair of points with one goal and one assist. Teanna Sieben registered eight saves for Lenoir-Rhyne.

The Tars out shot the Bears 32-10. Rollins held Lenoir-Rhyne to just 6-14 on the clear, as the Bears turned the ball over 17 times against Rollins 13. The Tars also dominated possession, winning 18-27 draw controls.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- The Bears got on the scoreboard first, but Rollins responded quickly, knotting the game with a Taylor Kienle free position goal.
- Charlotte Gastonguay put the Tars on top, off a well-executed play on a free position attempt that saw quick passes from Liz Fahey and Claire Reist.
- The Tars' streak continued with a fast break goal for Fahey, off a Abigail DeGroat assist, Charlotte Gastonguay's second score, off an assist from her sister, Caroline Gastonguay, Caroline Gastonguay's first goal of the day, Fahey's second goal, which came on an Abigail Cawley assist, and another sister combination, with Taylor Kienle finding Paige Kienle. The Tars ballooned their lead to 7-1 before the Bears took a timeout.
- The Bears tallied a pair out of the timeout, but the Tars closed the period with another goal from Fahey to take an 8-3 lead into the first break.
Second Quarter
- Caroline Gastonguay registered a pair of quick goals in the second quarter, as the Tars continued to build their lead.
- Reist tallied her first goal of the season with 10 minutes still showing on the clock to make the score 11-3.
- Taylor Kienle completed her hat trick with a pair of goals sandwiched around the Bears only score of the quarter.
- Fahey registered her fourth of the half with time expiring to send the teams to the locker room with the score at 14-4.
Third Quarter
- Lenoir-Rhyne opened the second half with a goal, cutting Rollins lead to nine goals, at 14-5.
- Ashley Goldstein closed the quarter with a pair of goals, including an extra woman score late in period, growing the Tars lead to 11, at 16-5.
Fourth Quarter
- Charlotte Gastonguay opened the fourth quarter by completing her hat trick.
- A Lenoir-Rhyne goal with 10 minutes left was the final score Rollins would allow.
- The Tars responded with one more score of their own. Emily Cumberland found the back of the net for the first time in her Blue and Gold career, making the score 18-6.
