Tars Sail By Mavericks in Jacksonville

Rollins got five goals from Justin White as they cruised to a 16-9 win over Colorado Mesa at The Bolles School

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (February 12, 2022) – Rollins got five goals from Justin White as they cruised to a 16-9 win over Colorado Mesa at The Bolles School.  Rollins improves to 2-0 overall, while the Mavericks split their season opening road trip to sit at 1-1.

White's five goals led all scorers, while the sophomore also added an assist, good for a total of six points.  Marshall Ellison and Bailey Pringle each contributed a hat trick for the Tars as well.  Grant Hansen delivered a game high four assists.  Jack Johnstone filled the stat sheet with his first two collegiate goals, an assist, seven groundballs, and a caused turnover.  Bradley Peterson anchored the defense with 16 saves, while Justin Isenhour caused three turnovers in front of him.

Carson Schwark led Colorado Mesa with a pair of scores.  The Mavericks got goal contributions from eight players.  Hunter Holcomb and Sergio Pelayo each tallied a pair of assists.  Reece Sullivan made nine saves for Colorado Mesa, playing the full 60 minutes in net.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • The Mavericks tallied the first score before Rollins pulled even when Grant Hansen found a wide open Bailey Pringle on the crease for an easy equalizer.  The Tars would pull in front just seconds later with Marshall Ellison's first.
  • Colorado Mesa would pull even at 2-2 with five minutes remaining in the quarter, but a three goal run by the Tars, including a pair from Justin White, gave Rollins a 5-2 advantage at the first break.
Second Quarter
  • Hansen registered an assist on each of the first two scores of the second quarter, a man up goal from Pringle and a scorcher from White.
  • After a Colorado Mesa goal made it 7-3, Jack Johnstone found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal, squeezing a low angle shot off the goalkeeper's hip.
  • A pair of Maverick goals shrunk the Rollins lead to three, at 8-5, but an acrobatic diving goal from Pringle late in the period made the score 9-5 at the break.
Third Quarter
  • Rollins registered the first four goals of the second half.  Finn Jent tallied a quick pair of scores, followed by two goals from Ellison, as Rollins ballooned their lead to 13-5, putting the game nearly out of reach.
  • Colorado Mesa recovered with a pair of late goals, which sent the two teams into the final 15 minutes with the scoreboard showing 13-7.
Fourth Quarter
  • Johnstone's second goal opened the fourth, coming on White's assist.  Hansen then dished out his final helper, firing a pass into White, who stung the underside of the crossbar for his fourth goal.
  • The two teams traded goals down the stretch, with White's fifth tally sandwiched between Maverick scores.
  • Rollins defense did not give the Colorado Mesa offense any hope of a comeback, seeing out the final minutes for the win.
