Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. (December 16, 2022) - The Rollins Tars took home their second straight win on Friday, defeating the Southeastern Fire 73-48 at Warden Arena. Rollins now sits at an even 5-5 on the season.
It didn't take long for Rollins to establish their dominance in this one. The Tars opened the game on a 13-0 run that saw more than six minutes come off the clock before Southeastern could get on the board.
Kymora Westerfield led the way the eight points in the period, and gave the Tars a 22-7 advantage after one.
The tables turned a little bit in the second quarter as Southeastern was able to scrape together a couple of scoring runs that pulled them within eight at 26-18. An
Emily McIntosh three put a stop to the Fire streak, followed by free throws from
Lucy Leen and
Isabella Prada to help pad the lead. At the halftime horn, Rollins was up 31-20.
Leen and
Emily Dogbatse helped the Tars increase their position early in the third, ballooning the score to 40-24. Southeastern struggled from the floor throughout the game against the vaunted Tars defense, and the third quarter was no exception. They only managed six made field goals in the quarter while Rollins added 22 points to their total.
Claire Erickson put an exclamation on the high-scoring period with a converted layup with two seconds left in the third to make the score 53-35.
The fourth quarter was more of the same as Rollins scored at will while also dominating on the defensive end. Southeastern didn't score a point until the 7:18 mark in the quarter. Meanwhile, the Tars' bigs ...
Aaliyah Irizarry-Perez and
Maria Atanassov-Tomas ... went to work down low, scoring nine straight points for Rollins. The ending was anti-climatic as the Tars held on for a 73-48 win.
Twelve different Rollins players scored in this one, led by eleven from both Erickson and Atanassov-Tomas. Irizarry pulled down a season-high eleven rebounds as well, helping the Tars win the battle of the boards, 44-36.
The team will have some time off to enjoy the holiday season before getting back into action on December 29th in a SSC matchup with #11 Eckerd in St. Petersburg.
