WINTER PARK, Fla. (Nov. 11, 2022) – The Rollins volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Nova Southeastern on Friday night, falling to the Sharks 25-23, 25-13, 25-17. The loss drops the Tars to 7-23 overall, 2-17 in conference play, while NSU improves to 18-11, 11-8 in SSC matches.
Andie Baldridge led the Tars with nine kills and added six digs, while
Lana Gerard chipped in with six kills and a match-leading 10 digs. Marta Tsaneva posted a team-high 22 assists to go along with four digs, three service aces, and three kills.
Kate Mihacevich racked up a match-best 10 kills for NSU while hitting .421. Cambry Pop added eight kills and Taylor Stockman contributed seven kills and four blocks (one solo) while hitting .500. Olivia Aniol registered eight blocks (one solo) and four kills as well. Bruna Avila recorded a match-high 29 assists to go along with seven digs and five blocks, while Aleyna Kennel picked up a team-best eight digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
- Rollins used a pair of Adriana Lopez service aces to jump out to an early 7-2 lead in the opening set.
- The lead grew to six points at 10-4, but Nova Southeastern started to chip away at the deficit, using a 3-0 spurt to cut the lead to 11-8.
- An 8-2 burst put the visitors in the lead, 19-18.
- Rollins kept it close, but the Sharks were able to eke out a 25-23 win.
Set Two
- NSU scored the first six points of set two and quickly established a 13-2 advantage.
- The lead reached 15 at 21-6 before the Tars went on a 4-1 run to make it 22-10.
- The Sharks took the frame by a score of 25-13.
Set Three
- Rollins went on a 4-0 spurt early in the third set to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 lead.
- A 7-0 run by the Sharks put the visitors in front, 15-9, and they wouldn't look back.
- The Tars enjoyed a 4-0 run capped by back-to-back aces from Gerard that trimmed the deficit to 21-16, but NSU took four of the final five points of the match to clinch the set, 25-17, and the 3-0 sweep along with it.
