Volleyball Swept by Embry-Riddle

Marta Tsaneva had a career-high 10 kills and four service aces for the Tars

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Nov. 1, 2022) – The Rollins volleyball team lost a conference match at home on Tuesday to visiting Embry-Riddle 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-14). The loss drops the Tars to 7-21 overall and 2-15 in SSC play, while the Eagles improve to 16-11, 7-9 in conference matches.
 
Marta Tsaneva led the Tars with a career-high 10 kills and hit .533 while adding a career-best four service aces. Emma Begley chipped in with seven kills and a pair of blocks and Lana Gerard added eight kills and five digs. Natalie Horsley piled up a match-best 29 assists and Adriana Lopez collected a team-leading 12 digs.
 
Jaden McBride led ERAU with 10 kills and hit. 500 to go along with seven digs, while Cameron Gilleland tallied seven kills and four blocks. Jenna Bishop hit .556 with six kills and six blocks, a match-high number of blocks that was equaled by Isabella Rujano and Dana Gibbons. Kendyl Taylor led all players with 14 digs while Devyn Petrowski (18 assists, 6 digs) and Lexie Hage (15 assists) split the setting duties.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • Embry-Riddle jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, but a kill from Emily Diaz brought Rollins back to even at 7-7.
  • Twice more the visitors built a three-point cushion only to see the Tars come back to level the score, including 11-11 and 15-15.
  • A 4-0 burst capped by back-to-back Tsaneva service aces put Rollins in front, 19-16.
  • The Eagles responded with a 3-0 run to tie it at 19, which proved to be the start of an 8-1 run that put ERAU up by a score of 24-20.
  • Two points later the visitors clinched the set, 25-21.
Set Two
  • Set two saw Embry-Riddle take an early 7-3 lead, but once again the home team fought back with a 5-1 run to tie it at eight.
  • A 6-1 spurt put ERAU up 16-10, and the Eagles were able to maintain a comfortable lead for the remainder of the frame before winning it, 25-19.
Set Three
  • The trend of quick starts for Embry-Riddle continued in the third as the visitors were up 6-2 quickly.
  • A 6-0 burst increased the lead to 13-4, which ended up growing into a 14-2 run that put ERAU ahead by a score of 21-6.
  • The Tars went on an 8-2 run, but couldn't get close as Embry-Riddle closed out the frame with a 25-14 win to leave with the 3-0 victory.
UP NEXT:
The Tars welcome Florida Southern to town on Thursday, Nov. 3 as they continue this six-game homestand to close out the season. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
