WINTER PARK, Fla. (Oct. 29, 2022) – The Rollins volleyball team lost to visiting Eckerd on Saturday, 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 28-26). The result pushes the Tars to 7-20 overall, 2-14 in SSC play, while the Tritons go to 19-5, 8-5 in conference matches.
The Tars wore special pink jerseys on Saturday as part of their Dig Pink initiative in cooperation with the Side-Out Founndation. Rollins is collecting donations as well as auctioning off those match-worn jerseys, with 100% of all proceeds going to the Side-Out Foundation. Emma Begley and Makayla Moran each tallied 10 kills to lead the Tars, with Begley hitting .474 and Moran hitting .500.
Lana Gerard added nine kills and eight digs while hitting .316.
Adriana Lopez tied Gerard for the team lead with eight digs, and Natalie Horsley tied for the match lead with 37 assists.
Joelle Coulter led all players with 15 kills and hit .519 for Eckerd, while Anna Jungjohann tallied 12 kills and hit .500 and Nyla Muskovin posted 10 kills while hitting .350. Ashley Eck picked up a match-best 10 digs and Krysten Garrison tied for the match lead with 37 assists to go along with four kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
- Eckerd took an early 8-4 lead in the opening set, and before long the lead grew to 14-8.
- Rollins got back to within three at 16-13, but the Tritons pulled away late, winning the final four points to take the set, 25-17.
Set Two
- A 5-0 spurt gave the visitors a 9-6 advantage early in set two.
- The Tars kept it close until a 6-0 burst gave Eckerd set point at 24-16, and the Tritons eventually closed it out, 25-18.
Set Three
- Eckerd used a 4-0 run to pull ahead by a score of 13-9 in the third set.
- A 5-1 spurt got the Tars back on even footing at 15-15, and neither team would lead by more than two points the rest of the way.
- A 3-0 run by Rollins gave the home team its biggest lead of the set at 22-20.
- A Begley kill put the Tars on the precipice of a set win at 24-22, but Eckerd responded by winning three straight points to give themselves match point at 25-24.
- Another Begley kill staved off the first match point, and an Andie Baldridge kill on the next rally gave the Tars their third set point at 26-25.
- Once again, Eckerd fought off set point and ended up scoring three straight to win the set, 28-26, completing the 3-0 sweep.
