Rollins Comes Up Short in Final Road Match of the Season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 25, 2022) – The Rollins volleyball team fell at Embry-Riddle on Tuesday night in the Tars' last road match of the 2022 season, dropping a 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 16-25) decision to the Eagles. The Tars now stand at 7-18 overall and 2-12 in conference play, while ERAU improves to 14-10 overall, 5-8 in SSC matches.
 
Emily Diaz led all players with a career-high 19 kills while hitting .356 to go along with a team-high four service aces and 10 digs for her first double-double of the season and second of her career. Emma Begley added 11 kills and a match-high six blocks (two solo), while Milla Sherman chipped in with six digs and a career-high 10 kills. Natalie Horsley compiled a match-high 43 assists and Adriana Lopez picked up a match-leading 13 digs.
 
Jaden McBride led the Eagles with 17 kills and added 10 digs while hitting .371. Cameron Gilleland contributed 15 kills, 12 digs, and four service aces, while Kendyl Taylor tied Gilleland with a team-high 12 digs. Devyn Petrowski (27 assists, seven digs, four aces) and Lexie Hage (22 assists) shared the setting duties for Embry-Riddle.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • The Tars got off to a quick start, taking four of the first five points.
  • Embry-Riddle then rattled off six in a row, which sparked what became a 13-3 run that put the home team ahead, 14-7.
  • The Tars battled back, using a 9-3 run to trim the deficit to a single point at 17-16.
  • A few points later, a Diaz kill helped Rollins pull even at 20-20.
  • ERAU was able to escape with a 25-22 win by grabbing the final three points of the frame.
Set Two
  • Rollins again held a slim lead early in the second set, but a 4-0 run for Embry-Riddle gave it a 9-6 lead.
  • The Tars retaliated with a 4-0 run of their own, retaking the lead, 10-9.
  • A 3-0 spurt gave Rollins a 17-15 lead, tied for its biggest lead of the set.
  • ERAU scored the next four points as part of a set-closing 10-3 burst that gave the Eagles the set, 25-20.
Set Three
  • Embry-Riddle jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the third, looking poised to sweep the match.
  • Rollins got within one at 15-14, but a 6-2 run put the Eagles ahead, 21-16.
  • The Tars then caught fire, scoring nine of the final 11 points of the set, including three straight kills from Diaz at one point, to win the set, 25-23.
Set Four
  • The Eagles again took a 9-3 lead in the fourth, but this time they continued to build on the early lead, eventually building it to 18-8.
  • Rollins scored the next four points to make it 18-12, but the Tars couldn't get any closer as ERAU took the set, 25-16, to win the match, three sets to one.
UP NEXT:
The Tars will return to home to begin a season-ending six-match homestand on Friday when they welcome No. 6 Tampa to Warden Arena for a 7 p.m. contest.
