Volleyball Downed by No. 16 Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Oct. 22, 2022) – The Rollins volleyball team lost on the road to 16th-ranked Barry on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-23) to the Bucs in Miami Shores. The loss drops the Tars to 7-17 overall and 2-11 in conference play, while Barry improves to 20-2, 11-1 in SSC matches.
 
Andie Baldridge recorded a team-high 11 kills while hitting .417 and added eight digs, while Makayla Moran and Lana Gerard each tallied eight kills. Adriana Lopez had a team-best nine digs and Natalie Horsley tallied a team-leading 23 assists.
 
Diana Akopova registered a match-best 15 kills and added seven digs for Barry, while Jeyhlen Thomas chipped in with eight kills and five blocks (two solo) with a .600 hitting percentage. Marija Borcic distributed a match-high 29 assists and Luana Bulara collected a match-leading 11 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • Barry grabbed the first four points of the match, but Rollins answered right back with five consecutive points to take a 5-4 lead.
  • A 7-1 run pushed the Bucs in front, 11-6, which would prove to be the final lead change of the opening frame.
  • A late 7-2 burst brought the Tars to within a point at 23-22, but Barry won the next two rallies to clinch the set, 25-22.
Set Two
  • Rollins won three of the first four points of set two, but a 5-0 run quickly put the home side ahead, 6-3.
  • Things were still close at 11-8 when Barry rattled off 12 straight points, and the Bucs cruised to a 25-9 win.
Set Three
  • Barry wasted little time in the third, jumping out to a 9-4 lead early.
  • The lead grew as large as 16-9, but the Tars kept battling, going on an 8-1 run to get within a pair at 17-15.
  • A 3-0 spurt in the latter stages brought Rollins even with the Bucs at 23-23, but Barry was able to win the final two points to claim the set, 25-23, completing the 3-0 sweep. 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will head to Daytona Beach for their final road match of the season when they take on Embry-Riddle on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
