Tars Fall to Embry-Riddle

Shooting woes doom Rollins in road loss to Eagles

Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 26, 2022) – Grace Alfieri scored a career-high 13 points off the bench on Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough for the Tars as they fell to Embry-Riddle, 50-41. With the loss the Tars fall to 5-12 overall and 2-10 in conference play, while the Eagles improve to 8-8, 6-5 in SSC contests.
 
Alfieri led all scorers with her 13 points, while also grabbing a team-high seven rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench. Lucy Leen chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds, while Maria Atanassov-Toma added five points and six boards.
 
Nikki Tucker led the Eagles with 13 points and added a game-high nine rebounds and six assists. Liz Behan added 12 points while Madyson Jean-Louis tallied five points, nine boards, and four assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Rollins jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and maintained it for the first 5:02 of the game.
  • ERAU took its first lead (10-8) at the 2:20 mark, but the two sides ended the opening quarter tied at 13.
Second Quarter
  • The Eagles opened the second quarter on a quick 5-0 run to take an 18-13 lead.
  • After Rollins got within one (18-17), Embry-Riddle scored nine straight to open up a 27-17 advantage.
  • Alfieri stopped the run with a last-second layup to make it 27-19 at halftime.
Third Quarter
  • Leen poured in the first four points of the third, pulling the Tars to within four (27-23) with 6:26 to play in the quarter.
  • A pair of Behan free throws with 2:28 on the clock gave ERAU a double-digit lead (35-25) once again.
  • Rollins closed out the period on a 6-0 run to narrow the gap to 37-34 with one quarter to play.
Fourth Quarter
  • Atanassov-Toma knocked down a free throw for the first point of the fourth, closing the deficit to just two points (37-35) with 7:39 left.
  • The Eagles scored the next seven points as part of an 11-2 run, giving the home team its biggest lead of the night at 48-37 with 4:02 remaining.
  • Neither side was able to find much offensively in the closing minutes, with Embry-Riddle taking the victory, 50-41.

Rollins will travel to Melbourne to take on Florida Tech on Saturday, January 29. That game is set to start at 2 p.m.
