Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 22, 2022) – The Rollins women's basketball team snapped its seven-game losing streak on Saturday with a 58-53 victory over visiting Palm Beach Atlantic. The Tars had a solid second quarter, outscoring the Sailfish 22-10, which proved to be the difference in the contest. With the win the Tars improve to 5-11 overall and 2-9 in conference play, while the Sailfish drop to 5-13, 2-9 in SSC contests.
Yoke Tassent and
Lucy Leen each scored a game-high 17 points, with Tassent connecting on 6-of-8 field goals, including a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the arc, while Leen was 5-of-9 from the field, all of which were three-point shots. Tassent also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
Kymora Westerfield dished out a game-high seven assists to go along with four points.
Shekinah Guthrie led the Sailfish with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Kash Ayuso tallied 10 points and a team-high three assists. Sia Williams scored 11 points off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Leen drilled a three on Rollins' first possession of the game, and a few minutes later she connected for another three to increase the Tars' lead to 10-4 at the midway point of the quarter.
- PBA went on a 6-0 run over the final 3:02 of the period to tie the game at 12.
Second Quarter
- Tassent knocked down a three just over a minute into the second quarter to put Rollins back on top, 15-12.
- Another Tassent triple built the lead to 28-20 with 2:36 left in the half.
- The Tars closed out the half with back-to-back threes from Leen and Tassent, increasing the margin to 34-22 at the break.
Third Quarter
- Rollins continued to shoot well from deep, getting threes from Pluviose and Leen on its first two possessions of the second half to pull ahead 40-26 one minute into the third quarter.
- A three-pointer from Tassent gave the Tars their biggest lead of the day at 18 points (45-27) with 5:46 left in the quarter.
- Palm Beach Atlantic scored the next six points to get within 12 (45-33) with 2:48 on the clock.
- Mari Atanassov-Tomas knocked down a jumper with 17 seconds remaining to make it a 50-37 game at the end of third.
Fourth Quarter
- A three from Leen at the 6:13 mark made it 55-42, but that would prove to be the final field goal of the day for Rollins.
- The Sailfish scored the next six points and turned that into an 11-1 run to get within three (56-53) with 1:28 to play.
- Neither side could find the goal for over a minute, with the two teams combining for three turnovers and two missed field goals during that span.
- The Tars finally broke through with a pair of free throws from Leen with seven ticks on the clock, cementing the 58-53 victory.
