WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 2, 2022) – The Tars started slow and could not recover, dropping their first contest of the new year, 66-43, against the Lynn Fighting Knights. Rollins drops to 4-7 overall, and 1-5 in the Sunshine State Conference. Lynn improves to 4-5, and 2-3 in conference action.

Asia Newsome led the Tars with 10 points, three steals, and a pair of assists.Â
Kymora Westerfield and
Silvia Lasarte Garcia each added six points.Â
Shannelle Heredia paced Rollins with seven rebounds.

Rachel Romich led a trio of double-digit scorers for the Fighting Knights, dropping 20 points. Dani Lozzi tallied 15 points and game highs with eight boards and four assists, while Trinity Edwards registered 12 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Silvia Lasarte Garcia tallied the first points of the game. Shannelle Heredia then followed that up with a layup, as Rollins led 2-0 and 4-2. But those were the only Tars leads of the day.
- Lynn ended the quarter on a 14-2 run, taking a commanding 16-6 lead into the first break.
Second Quarter
- The Fighting Knights ballooned their advantage to 18 points over the first eight minutes.
- Heredia, Kalila Fambro, and Asia Newsome all made layups to end the half on a 6-0 run, cutting the deficit to 12, at 31-19.
Third Quarter
- The teams traded buckets for the first three minutes of the second half.
- Lynn then went on a 15-6 run to end the quarter, and take an insurmountable 21 point lead into the final period.
Fourth Quarter
- Rollins could not pull any closer in the fourth quarter. Newsome sunk a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 19 points at the halfway point.
- Lynn closed the game with four consecutive scores, as the buzzer sounded with the score showing 66-43.
