Rollins Moves Winning Streak to Four

The Tars registered a convincing 3-0 victory over Saint Leo under the lights at Cahall-Sandspur Field

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 6, 2021) – The Tars remained perfect in Sunshine State Conference play, after a convincing 3-0 victory over Saint Leo under the lights at Cahall-Sandspur Field.  The Tars can now boast a winning record for the first time in 2021, as the improve to 5-4-0, and 3-0-0 in SSC play. The Lions fall to 1-8-1 overall, and remain winless in conference action, at 0-4-0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half
  • The Tars jumped out to an early lead.  After creating a number of chances early, the Tars opened the scoring in the eighth minute.  Bailey Tran sliced the Lions' backline with the first of her two assists.  Kayla Park got on the end of the ball and slid a left footed shot off the post and into the net.
  • The Tars managed five shots against one Lion attempt, as Rollins remained the aggressor for the majority of the first 45 minutes.
Second Half
  • The Lions looked energized in the opening moments of the second period, but Rollins quickly upped their intensity as well, and recaptured their dominant position.
  • The Tars aggression finally paid off in the 78th minute.  Bailey Tran collected a loose ball, after Tayla Duffy had charged into the Saint Leo penalty area.  The junior took advantage of the out of position Lion defense and made perfect pass across the six yard box to a wide open Chynna McGirt who tapped the ball into an open goal, making the score 2-0.
  • The Tars continued to press, and were rewarded by icing the game away in the 87th minute.  Anna Todd forced a mistake by the Lions' backline and Lana Truong was there to pounce on the loose ball.  The sophomore found an open Duffy who gathered the pass, deftly dribbled around the keeper, and guided the ball home, making the score 3-0.
 
UP NEXT:
Rollins will return to action on Saturday, October 9, when they welcome the #16 Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Barker Family Stadium.
