Lynn Snaps Rollins Win Streak

Tars lost 3-0 in Boca Raton on Friday evening

BOCA RATON, Fla. (October 29, 2021) - For the first time in three matches, the Rollins Tars were handed a loss as they fell to the Lynn Fighting Knights 3-0 on Friday night. The loss drops Rollins to 6-17 (1-12 SSC) on the year, while Lynn moves to 14-9 (9-4 SSC).

How it Happened:
  • Both teams came out swinging early on. Lynn recorded their first five points via kill, and jumped out to an early lead. Undeterred, the Tars used kills from Candace Doxey and Kaylee Tutor, plus a Jessika Linnemeyer ace, to stay in the game. Six of the next ten points scored by the Knights were give to them by service and ball-handling errors from the Tars. Still, Rollins stayed in the game with multiple kills from Lana Gerard and Andie Baldridge. Trailing 19-15, Rollins made a late run of five straight points thanks to three Lynn errors and kills from Tutor and Gerard, giving them a 20-19 lead. It was a dogfight during the final points, with Lynn looking to wrap things up when they went up 24-22. However, Rollins rallied to score three straight, including a clutch kill from Baldridge that tied things up at 24. The game would tie up once more at 26 all, but Lynn eventually walked away victorious, 28-26. Rollins totaled 15 kills in the first set.
  • The second set also went in Lynn's favor as they started things off with a sizable run that Rollins could not overcome. The Tars only managed three kills in the set, with two coming from Alexis Yeager. The Knights took set two by a score of 25-8.
  • Rollins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in set three with a Doxey kill and an attack error from the Knights. The lead was shortlived, however, as Lynn proceeded to score eleven straight points. The Tars did not help themselves as seven of those eleven points were via service, attack, and ball-handling errors. The highlight for the third set was a pair of back-to-back aces from Adriane Griffith during a five-point Rollins run. It would not end up being enough as Lynn finished the sweep, 25-13
Gerard led the Tars' offense with eight kills, followed by Doxey and Tutor with four each. As a team, Rollins totaled 25 kills and 19 attack errors. On the defensive end, Begley, Tutor, and Yeager each had multiple blocks. Rollins will be right back at it with a trip to Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday afternoon, scheduled for a 4:00 pm start.
