WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (October 30, 2021) - Rollins wrapped up their weekend trip to South Florida with a tough 3-1 loss at the hands of the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Saturday. The loss drops Rollins to 6-18 (1-13 SSC) on the year, whi;e Palm Beach Atlantic moves to 12-12 (5-8 SSC).
How it Happened:
- Rollins started things off with a kill from Alexis Yeager to take the early lead, followed by both teams keeping it tight throughout. Neither team had a lead of more than three until Rollins went to work while trailing 13-10. The next seven points belonged to the Tars as Andie Baldridge held serve. She dealt a pair of aces to the Sailfish, and also coerced them into four errors during the run. The two teams then swapped points for the remainder of the set until Emma Begley sealed the win with a kill to make the score 25-21. Rollins tallied 13 kills at .258%Â in the set.
- The second set saw the action ebb and flow in both directions. Rollins held multiple leads during the first ten points, highlighted by three kills from Baldridge. With the Tars leading 9-6, the Sailfish went on a six-point run, with five of the points coming on Rollins attack errors. With PBA now leading 12-9, a four-point run that included a pair of kills from Lana Gerard helped the Tars reclaim the lead. Moments later, Maddy Hooper delivered four service aces for the Sailfish, giving them a 19-14 advantage. The score would eventually reach 23-16, but the Tars were not competing. The next six points went in Rollins' favor that included kills from Begley and Baldridge that made the score 23-22. The comeback attempt would fall short however, as Palm Beach Atlantic won 25-23.Â
- The Tars started to lose gas in the third set. The score tied at one each to start, and then Palm Beach Atlantic went on a big run that Rollins would not recover from. The Sailfish posted 16 kills to their ledger against three errors for an impressive .591%. Rollins tried to maintain pace with 11 kills at .240%, but were ultimately unable to stop the Sailfish onslaught. Palm Beach Atlantic took the third set, 25-16.
- Set four played similarly to the third. With the score tied at four, Palm Beach Atlantic used four kills, and ace, and a Rollins attack error to go ahead 10-4. Rollins would never get closer than six points, and eventually fell 25-13.Â
Andie Baldridge led all players with 15 kills on the afternoon. She was flanked by
Lana Gerard's 14 and
Emma Begley's 10.
